Question
hey joe, can you show us the lllt device where you purchased and how you use it? it would help a lot.
hey joe, I am eating only beef as of right now. I have checked my DNA reports and my DNA looks pretty good only thing is I have high sensitivities to food additives and lactose, but other than that it says it's average or below average for everything else. eating beef has helped me a lot and has brought inflam down by a lot. but im still having inflam and not 100% fixed for you when you ate mostly meat diet by what i understand your inflam went away or did you do other things aswell. please guide me im kinda lost as to what to do?
1. joe I have had severe inflammation in the brain for a while, mostly from food. I have calmed or almost fixed it with carnivore and taking multivitamin plus electrolytes. i have healed mostly but still, get inflamed and can't figure out what it could be. 2.joe do you usually eat grass-fed or convententinal meat? and does it give you inflamed, like a rotisserie chicken or steak from a restaurant? 3.do you think I have to wait and do carnivore for a while for my inflamed to fully subside? then start a reintroduction diet? 4.joe did you start taking your stack of supplements after you fixed your diet, when you started feeling better? because I took my cognitive DNA report, I took the supplement but it didn't help me at all but that was when I was severely inflamed. do you think if your gut is inflamed it won't help at all? 5. joe when you did the elimination diet or found your food sensitivities, how did you go about it taking a multivitamin while eating meat and electrolytes? or did you do something else other than diet to lower inflammation? my situation is pretty much the same as yours except my DNA isn't as bad I don't have lectin and other sensitivities DNA muutation. but i am pretty much inflamed by a lot of food.
I have been looking for a solution for a long time. When it is going to precipitate (whether it does or not) my head gets really heavy and I need to sleep. I have almost fallen asleep driving. I could be in a basement in a meeting with no windows, not having looked at a weather report and if you see me falling asleep, you know it is going to rain or snow - or, as I put it "a cloud came over". Suggestions are very welcome. Doesn't matter how well rested I am (although with complex sleep apnea, that is an issue even though theoretically treated).
What causes TGF Beta 1 to elevate? I have been treated for mold and since the treatment incorporating VIP, my numbers went from 2800 to over 9700. Can VIP be the cause. I have lost over 70 percent of my hair- looks like it went thru a paper shredder. I have passed the VCS tests. How do I lower the TGF Beta 1 and would testing TGF Beta 2 also help with the hair situation ? Side note- I ordered the DNA kit weeks ago and still have not received.
Hi, My wife has the polycystic kidney disease. I don't know what to do to help her. What kind of things she could do to improve, even to heal this disease. There is no cure right now but I'm sure, we can do something. Thank for your recommendation !
Hi Joe, I recently wanted to use a company inside trackers to put my bloods and DNA side by side and utilise their algorithms. Unfortunately they only accept 23andme and Ancestry. Do you see this as an on-going issue with emerging tech start ups? Can Self Decode facilitate the same / similar function of these new software start ups - Like inside tracker?
Hi Joe I've been diagnosed with BRCA2 (standard gene) and yet the BRCA report i just downloaded says I've no significantly increased risk of either BRCA gene. This doesn't give me much confidence now in any of the reports. Can you explain please? Could it be the base data or the report?
Hi Joe - I recently started using a CGM to track my Glucose throughout the day. I've been doing keto for the last 3 years. What I have noticed is my glucose rises when I am sleeping. From what I can find online, this seems to be normal for people doing Keto for so long. Can you explain why this happens? Also, is there a healthy range I should shoot for throughout the day when I am eating? How long after eating should my glucose go back down to normal range?
Hi Joe, I really appreciate all the work on SelfDecode and SelfHacked, we have really value answers there. My question is related to DBH SNPs, I have at least 4 SNPs that increase my DBH production, so I get more conversion of Dopamine into Norepinephrine. How can I decrease the production of DBH in order to balance my Dopamine levels?
Of all the thousands of genes, which few are the most important ones?
What would be your recommendation to improve glycogen storage? I am using a continuous blood glucose monitor and can see that my night glucose is unstable and falls beyond normal levels, waking me up and producing nightmares. I am not diabetic, and all my glucose, ac1, insulin are within range (insulin is on the high side though). I am eating carbs sufficiently during the day.
Hi Joe. Male, 29. Eleven months ago I tested licorice root as a tea for just a few days, and have been having chronic heart/sleep issues the whole time since. At the time I was also taking high doses of vitamin D and K. —— Heart: high rate at 80-95 (used to be 65-75) with with a few tachycardia attacks, impervious to breathing etc; ‘thick’ beat (sometimes even when rate is normal); and short rhythm (almost a single ‘hit’ instead of the double da-thunk, or with the first hit way heavier than the second). Generally I go to sleep okay but often wake up from 2-6 and can’t get back to sleep, typically waking up from a dream with these heart symptoms at the same time. (All of my sleep feels like it has lost that silky “sleepy” quality and is “rougher”.) Plus Oura ring shows I have a big 5-10BPM dip around 2-4 that sticks out on the graph, almost every night, any idea what this could be about? —— I’ve tested so many things with little result: adrenal care, eating fat/sugar before bed, toying with electrolytes, even trusty diphenhydramine doesn’t always get me through the night. So far I’ve discovered that glycine helps my HR (and HRV, which also plummeted post-licorice) but it never lasts, and I’m needing 15g+ for the effect. I know licorice/glycine are elated to oxalate processing (never had stones), which also depends on B6 (along with pyroluria, which I checked off many of the symptoms for to be honest). B6 has begun making me sleepy so that seems like a missing piece — but it works only when my nervous system is relaxed by glycine/pharmaGABA/luck. —— My nervous system seems to be staying too active for neurotransmitters to do their thing and I don’t know why? What could a few doses of licorice have upset? Took myself to MedExpress in month 1 and they found nothing (serum magnesium good, calcium at high end but not over). I definitely had pseudohyperaldosteronism with the licorice. It was exacerbated by the D and toned down when I stopped D. Not sure what I'm missing.
why do you take acetyl-l-carnitine, for fat burning or digestion? why would you need fat burning. just curious. 2.what do you suggest for ices use daily? and what about lllt (veighlight) should it be done daily or would it be done weekly. what would you recommend?
Hi Joe - I hope you are well after the election! I want to know what you think of "binders" for toxins such as bentonite clay, charcoal, chitosan, molybdenum, zeolite, fulvic acid, etc. Do they get toxins out just from the gut or do they have any power to draw toxins out of blood or tissues? If they work, how long do you think one could safely take? Thank you so much.
Hi Joe, Hope you are very well and many thanks for the great resource SelfDecode has become. I have run into a little anomaly using the newest SelfDecode report ("Food Sensitivity") and would much appreciate your expertise; My SelfDecode "Food Sensitivity" report suggests supplementing SAM-e because "SAM-e donates methyl groups required for histamine breakdown by HNMT and may help people with underactive variants". Since my genotype for rs1050891 is rated as "significantly increased risk", linked to "increased brain histamine levels" and many symptoms of food and histamine sensitivity are familiar to me in real life, I decided to give it a try. So the other day I took 400mg of SAM-e on an empty stomach at about 1pm. What I subsequently experienced was extreme fatigue, which peaked about 4 hours later. It actually reminded me of the "I'm tired boss, dog tired" quote of The Green Mile. Clearly the SAM-e had an effect, but not the desired one. Of course I've stopped taking the SAM-e but what I'm wondering is what this experience means. Certainly it is a clue to how the body works? FYI, other supplements I'm taking: methylfolate (5-MTHF), B12, L-theanine, vitamine D and Betaine HCI. And perhaps another relevant clue: I'm sensitive to salicylates. If you would be able to share any thoughts on this situation that'd be much appreciated. Kind regards, Ben
Hi, here are 3 questions, so you can choose any you consider interesting: 1. Are there any recommendations for people with a predisposition for Parkinson's disease? 2. Is there any safe biohack to consume legums? 3. Simple way to know TH1 or TH2 dominance?
Can you please explain why, for example, my Thyroid report indicates a good number of genes suggesting that I will be hyperthyroid, but in fact I am the complete opposite?
What are the biomarkers of neuroinflammation?
I've been diagnosed with ME/CFS and would like to know how I can improve my condition with DNA-Based Health Coaching?
Looking for a DNA/Genetic link for Dysautonomia/POTS
do you have any information or will you have any reports in the future on women and peri menopause, especially the area of weight gain, even though fasting 18 hours a day and low carb and working out 5 days a week. many thanks Karen
I think your qualifier that genes are only part of the equation is helpful as often don’t have the issues that are said in the reports. I do many things t keep my health in focus so that may be helping.
Are there any anti-inflammatory products that help with brain-blood barrier entry that help with mental recovery. I use NuCalm which does help a lot.
How extensive is the Self-Hacked DNA test when compared to other tests?

I have a client 50 years old with ESRD, She has hereditary Thin Basement Membrane Disease She hasn’t been worked up for ten years. I am coaching her to get genetic testing done for her diet, autoimmune correlations, and lowering inflammation. Do you have a kidney panel for DNA? Also it has been tied to SNPs with hereditary abnormal genes she is polycystic and this is related to type IV collagen genes
I recently had my whole genome sequenced through Dante. I can't figure it which file type is best to use in self-decode. Which one is best? Thnks
Can you explain the new COMT report vrs the traditional way of analyzing COMT? I understand it is using multiple SNPS but they are not broken down enough for me to explain it.
How do I upload a negative lab marker in Lab Analyzer?
Can you explain Lab Analyzer?
Q: on my food sensitivity report it says that I am “Lactose-intolerant” & “Carbohydrate-intolerant”. I want to know what percentage of all your users have these two intolerances? Is it close to 75% of population ? How drastically do I need to eliminate carbohydrates and lactose in order to improve my health? (One chronic issue I have is back acne)
Anyone try Brocelite.com product? Derived from Broccoli?
I sleep about 5-7 hours a night. Deep sleep is usually only 15 minutes. I've been taking melatonin 6mg extended release, phosphatidylserine, hops, holy basil, theanine, magnesium taurate at night for at least a year. Benzos really put me out, but I want to avoid that damage. Phenibut works great, but can only use it twice a week. Any thoughts?
Would there be reports on specific drugs like the G6PD gene regarding hydroxychloroquine? You may already offer the drug/chemo genes?
How long will it take to get my genetic report ? I sent my sample in 3 weeks ago
Joe, do you have podcast?
Do you have any tests for salicylates or oxalate sensitivity?
How do you feel about using pomegranate with the PON1 SNP?
Q: a few years ago I had my TSH tested a few times and each time, my result was too low 0.01-0.06 … so I started taking 1500mg Acetyl L-Carnitine daily. It has helped to raise my TSH to 0.4-0.5 … but now it has been 4-5 years of daily use. Could I be doing any harm to my health due to this prolonged use of Alcar?
can you suggest any supplements or snp markers that suggest complications from the Sara-cov-2 vaccinations?
Do you recommend testing 25(OH) Vit D and 1,25 (OH) vit d levels to look for the ratio. If over 2 is then inflammation the reason?
what is going on with mouth sores? is that an allergy to something or an autoimmune or viral load problem? I don’t have my test results back yet…waiting.

Question
Final note to my big questions below: I think it was vitamin K (K1, MK4, MK7) causing my BP issues!? I'm starting to take 10k D without any K. PS: What's the Group Consult for?
I have tried several times to unsubscribe from VIP service but you keep charging me. I have evidence from many emails and only one response. I really enjoyed for several years your service but this is unprofessional. I know you are probably not even aware of this and that this is not the place for this, but you should have venues to solve problems like this.
Do you know any particular hack/solution to overcome waking up at night at about 1-3 am? Most of the time I fall asleep very quickly, then I wake up after the first or second sleep cycle. Usually, I don't feel tired after and it is really hard to fall back to sleep. It takes much time for me to feel tired again and fall back to sleep again, but even when I can I have a lighter sleep. According to your sleep report, I have lower-than-average risk for insomnia-like symptoms.
A few other observations on top of my first message, My Oura is tracking a -5-8 dip in BPM at the moments I wake up (~2am, ~3:30, sometimes midnight). When I had a Fitbit it tracked a -7-10% dip in oxygen (Pulse Ox) around those same times (before megadosing D). With the D+licorice interaction I had super high and sensitive BPM during the day, so that still points me to aldosterone/etc imbalance. But are these ox/BPM dips related? Are they just sleep apnea? But if so, why at very specific times? I've been looking into trying nitric oxide supplementation but am not sure if it fits this picture?
I've gotten myself into an odd situation with Vitamin D so bear with me please. I've been chronically deficient (VDR SNPs confirmed, maybe absorption issues too?) so I feel I need to supplement for life, but I'd been neglecting it for years because no doctor prioritized it. So last October - November I megadosed 25k-70k daily for a few weeks to force my levels into optimal range (D3 + 3 Ks was most effective) , mainly because I was in pursuit of resolving a severe, chronic cluster of health issues: 1-3-day-long, post-meal "hangovers" involving lethargy, cognitive impairment, eye pain / uveitis, loss of appetite, and mood issues (which I'd asked you about a couple months ago too). I got a blood test and overshot it of course (196 ng/mL of 25OH with calcitriol at 80pg), yet had ZERO negative side effects. This megadosing experiment DID IMPROVE those symptoms which had not responded to anything else for three years, and then completely disappeared like a miracle with slippery elm! (So clearly there was a gut-immune connection; I found your Tregs article which seems relevant). HOWEVER, to try supporting my continuing adrenal/HPA fatigue. I experimented with about 3 days of licorice root/tea at the end of my megadosing phase and my blood pressure skyrocketed to scary levels. I took myself to MedExpress, before connecting the dots: stopping D immediately lowered the high daytime BP. But I was left in a pattern of 3am awakenings for months, finally resolved a few weeks ago with 3000mg (3x) Seriphos and eating glucose Extend bars before bed. (My hunger/metabolism is through the roof, along with shaky body temp / temp sensitivity) Then recently, some of those "hangover" symptoms popped back up. I connected the dots to being 4 months off D, so I took 45k again across two days. Maybe it was too much? Because my sleep has been disturbed with 2am AND 3-4am high BP awakenings, where I can't fall back to sleep after the second awakening. I finally realized this is more likely aldosterone than cortisol? This BP is very 'calm but heavy', whereas cortisol BP always had a clear physical-mental-emotional stress associated with it and responded to Seriphos. My 3x Seriphos before bed has lost its efficacy with this non-stress BP. Taking another 1x with the second awakening might be helping me get back to sleep 2-3 hours later, but also wipes out my morning cortisol/oomph. So. What body equilibrium/system involving D/aldosterone/cortisol/adrenals/electrolytes did licorice screw with, that taking D is producing aldosterone-based insomnia? What am I missing? Based on two blood tests 45 days apart, my 196 levels dropped to 78 at a rate of losing ~2.4ng / day, so I don't think I can go too long with out D. But it's like I traded severe gut-immune symptoms for crazy insomnia, and there's a balance in between that I'm missing and don't know how to get back to. I feel like if I'd never experimented with licorice (the one thing I didn't research enough in my whole life!!!), then the combo of D + slippery elm + glucose management + Seriphos would've supported all of my issues and left me in a good place. Eager for your insight. Thank you.
I was wondering if I could schedule an appointment with you. Brain fog has become a big part of my life, and it's really made working difficult. My forehead always feels tight and it has become very hard to concentrate. I've been trying to treat my brain fog but so far it has been to no avail. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
My DHEA is high, I don't take supplements. I can find lots of info about low DHEA but not high. What are the implications of having a high DHEA the blood test results came back saying 7.14 umol/L out of range
Any particular reason why NAC isn't in your regimen?
Do you have any advice on weaning off from Otrivine for someone who suffers allergic nasal congestion at night?
"HLA-DQ8 even without HLA-DQ2 still seems to confer a 5-10% risk of celiac disease. It seems that selfdecode does not report this risk as below ... I just wrote in a question about RA/Carnivore. I meant to also write I am APOE 3/4 so how do I address the saturated fat issue? Thanks.
I am somewhere on the arthritis spectrum, possibly RA (it's painful and in all matching joints). Last summer I went carnivore which helped a ton, but a simultaneous large increase in a calcium supplement gave me C-Diff. My joint pain is unmanageable and I want to carefully return to as close to carnivore as possible. I think I need to keep some level of carb because I have Hashimotos and sleep/ feel better with it. Can you suggest how I would best do this? Soaked rice over vegetables? I've tried everything else- AIP, Keto, Paleo and the arthritis stays with me. Any other suggestions?
