Question
Hi Joe, I recently started taking modafinil to increase my wakefulness and concentration. I found that just 50mg is enough to get me through the day when needed. I find when I take it my focus to get tasks done is incredible. I have this JUST DO IT attitude and I'm checking things off my to-do list like never before. I've seen some conflicting articles online about taking it too many consecutive days in a row. Do you have any research on how I should be utilizing this drug to achieve these smart drug affects without overdoing it? I almost feel like I've had ADHD my whole life that's never been diagnosed, and now I'm like a new person. I'm very interested to get your take on this.
It's been a while since I posed any questions here. It's about 2 years since I last asked you about how to overcome intense brain fog/depersonalisation issues that hit me after an intense bout of stress nearly 5 years ago now and have not gone away despite trying so many things.... I'm now trying to work on my vagal tone and improve that, as I believe it's connected to limbic system function, and can help with rebalancing from "limbic kindling". Do you think I'm on the right path? Can you make any more suggestions as now a couple of years has passed since I last asked you about this. Have you learned what helps overcome DP since then? Also quickly. Your new VIP area looks better aesthetically, so thanks for that. However, there is no way to search through all the discussions from previous webinars. The way the old system was setup, I could search my name or a keyword I was interested in just by doing a page search as all the text/videos were on the same page... Now there's simply no way of searching previous webinars, and it's very dysfunctional in that way. Can you please please fix this so it's functional for searching past data again?
I was wondering what your theories are on chronic muscle aches/pain and whether presentation of those symptoms could potentially be traced to a cause that also would result in brain fog. Or, is there a theory that can explain the coincident presentation of muscle aches/pain and brain fog, or do you see these things as likely being caused by separate factors?
My dad (age 62) starting showing symptoms of parkinon's after a UTI infection. Could that be related to flouroquinolone toxicity or biofilms? He was tested positive for UTI infection, and was treated with antibiotics thereafter, and after treatment his current tests do not show any UTI infection. Also he not longer has any symptoms of UTI infection. But he gets sick quite often, feels lethargic, weak, not motivated, and is fatigued all the time. And on top of that he has mild parkinon's symptoms. So I am not sure if the infection is still there and hidden because of biofilm formation and not visible in the tests. Is it possible that the UTI infection is still there but could not be diagnosed in the tests because of biofilms? I am pretty sure parkinon's onset is after UTI and is related. It has been close to two years after UTI and since then he has been having these symptoms. Any recommendations you have regarding this in particular and parkinson's in general?
Which glutathione is better: s-acetyl-L-glutathione or liposomal glutathione?

I am 56,male, underweight 122 lbs, have suffered from insomnia, depression, digestion problems all my life. I have probably won the same gene lottery that you mention in your intro. I was able to function(software engineer) using some mix of antidepressants(10yrs) and vitamins, /nutrients for some time. But then I had to quit my job after extreme bout of insomnia some 10 yrs ago. Since then I am not healed and have to take Benzo for sleep. I have seen 100's of doctors and ND's, eliminated Gluten and Dairy without success. I am very thin, eat twice a day AM breakfast at 7-8am and dinner at 5-6pm. Main diet consists of legumes, rice, beef, fish, chicken, eggs, sweet potato, fruits, green veg salad, nuts, tea(one cup) . Since couple of months I have started taking CBD oil which is helping me in improving the quality of sleep which I get on Benzo. My illness started in late teen years when I started shift work. I am in Ontario Canada since last one year but my problems are not related to any geography(abundance/lack of sunshine). It is in my gut. I want get off Benzo because of its side effects eg; on memory, mood, lethargy. Because of insomnia I suffer from cognitive decline, executive function impairment, mental fog to such an extent that I can't find gainful work. Can you suggest any course of action for me? Is it possible to consult you? Thanks
Hi Joe, I'm FUT2++ (on all 3), so non-secretor. I see you have talked about Fut2 in articles as it relates to B12, but nothing about the non-secretor status. It effects about 25% of the population. You don't secret your blood type antigen onto your mucosal layers, which makes it harder for probiotics to stick, esp bifidus. This makes non-secretors likely to have dysbiosis and sets us up for Candida, Chrohn's, UTI's, etc... taking oligosaccharides & probiotics. Any insights and info appreciated. Thanks.
How much effort do you put into looking for medical studies to support your posts espousing a particular supplement, process, etc? Is the same amount of effort put into looking for medical studies to the detriment of those same things? Is a priority placed finding/evaluating Randomized, Controlled, Double-Blinded studies? How frequently, if at all, do you revisit your recommendations to see if recent research has shown something to be less helpful or even harmful? Do you have alerts set up to notify you when new findings/studies are released on such items?
The following: stress, allergies, intense exercise, gut issues, excess alcohol ALL cause my brain function -especially my ability to focus- to go down dramatically (-30% compared to baseline) and I get back to normal after 2-4 days. So, my problem is that: i) my tolerance to "brain stressors" is VERY low and ii) my body takes a long time to recover from them. I'd like to understand the potential explanations for this (maybe a very permeable Blood-Brain Barrier?) as well as what can I do to improve. A bit of more info: I usually score 5/100 in the TOC test using brain gauge (7 our of 12 times doing the test) and my average overall functioning (after 12 times taking the recommended 8 tests) is 57.09/100 (max of 73 and min of 44). I also have subjectively measured my brain function every working day this year and my brain performs at an "acceptable level" only 66% of days. This is while living a lifestyle that's way healthier than the average American.
My main questions are : how to improve and heal your body from damage caused by antidepressants? is there any way to ease withdrawal effects after one year suffering from them? how to tune your nervous system back to normal?
Hello Joe, What may cause the following symptoms? Pain on right side of abdomen, with bad taste in mouth and fatigue. 69 yr old male Thank you and God bless
Dear Joe, I left a comment on the "Amitriptyline (Elavil) Uses + Side Effects & Dosage" and I was told to contact you to get answers. Here is my problem: I'm in my late 30s and last year I had amitriptyline for 2 months due to a mild problem with the nerves of my bladder. Side effects started to show up in 4 weeks, I had numbing and electric feeling along my arms while sleeping, then nightmares, I used to wake up in the middle of the night screaming, I had hallucinations, dry nose till the point I could breath, dry mouth, nausea etc. I got almost all the side effects, at that time I was visiting a psychiatrist because I thought part of the symptoms were due to anxiety, he told me to stop amitriptyline without tapping and start with Cipralex ( escitolopram ) then I started to have more severe symptoms, I have to stop Cipralex abruptly and that left me with other problems that I'm still dealing with after more that one year. My main problem is that after those drugs I developed insomnia and I have twitching muscles at night ( that are getting better with buffered chelated magnesium bisglycinate), I'm also dealing with dry mucosa in my nose and throat a long the day and night time, and sometimes swollen palate when I wake up. no doctors seems to understand any relationship between the drugs and the symptoms. I probably need to improve my nervous system after that for healing. Apart from that I also have other problems of swelling in one on my ankle that comes and goes, but this started to happen some years before when I started having many antibiotics to treat urine infections( I'm not having this infections anymore). My liver don't work 100% ok as I have one copy of alpha-1 antitripsine inherited by one of my parents, I wonder if that affect detoxification of drugs and could cause the swelling. Will selfdecode help me with it? please help. Many thanks Xx
